Brown is repped by Trisko and Thruline Entertainment. House is repped by Thruline Entertainment and Play Management. Close is repped by Buchwald, Play Management, and Stride Management.

“Murder in a Small Town” was picked up for a second season in January. The series is based on the Karl Alberg books by L.R. Wright. Fox acquired the U.S. rights to the show in late 2023. It airs on the Global Television Network in Canada and premiered on Fox and Global in September 2024.

Ian Weir serves as head writer and executive producer. Nick Orchard of Soap Box Productions, which originally optioned the Alberg books, executive produces along with Morris Ruskin and Sharon Wisnia of Mojo Global Arts, Jon Cotton, Kim Roberts and Tina Pehme of Sepia Films, and Jeff Wachtel and Jared Berenholz of Future Shack Entertainment. The series is produced by Sepia Films in association with Fox Entertainment and Future Shack Entertainment.

Character Descriptions

Bethan Brown as Corporal Laila Jackson:

Jackson used to work with Chief Karl Alberg in Minneapolis, where she was on the detective track. Personable, outgoing and (outwardly) confident, she comes across as fun and charming – a genuinely sunny presence. She’s also a highly talented cop, but she carries baggage. A recovering alcoholic, Jackson has been part of the Gibsons PD for a couple of months and has quickly established herself as a valuable teammate and colleague. But the overload caused by the department’s critical understaffing will begin to take a toll threatening to set loose all of Jackson’s old demons.

Marci T. House as Angela Clyburn:

Brisk, brusque, and capable, Clyburn is a Medical Examiner who works tirelessly and pays attention to detail. Recently single and with a 19-year-old son, Clyburn knows Alberg by reputation but has not worked with him until now. The jury is out, as far as she’s concerned…until Alberg’s methods and his integrity begin to win her over.

Joshua Close as Todd:

A large, unkempt, and ragged unhoused man, Todd’s appearance makes him seem scarier than he is. Prone to anxiety and lashing out when backed into a corner, Todd is actually an avid and insightful reader who spends his time at the local library. A confrontation in town leads to police involvement and the discovery that Todd may have been connected to a violent crime. But was he a witness…or something more than that?
