‘The Pitt,’ ‘Dying for Sex’ Among 2025 Humanitas Prize Winners
The “2:00 P.M.” episode of HBO Max’s “The Pitt” and the “It’s Not That Serious” seg of FX’s “Dying for Sex” were among the big winners on Sunday at the 2025 Humanitas Prizes. The event, held at the Avalon Hollywood and hosted by comedian Leah Rudick, honors writers of film and television projects “that explore the human condition in a nuanced and meaningful way.”
Other honorees included the films “Sing Sing” and “A Real Pain,” as well as the doc “Patrice: The Movie,” the young adult program “Heartstopper” and the family film “Inside Out 2.” All told, 52 writers were nominated for their work across 10 film and TV categories. Winners receive a trophy and a $10,000 cash prize.

Family Feature: “Inside Out 2,” Meg LeFauve and Dave Holstein
Documentary (Docuseries, Single Episode): “Vow of Silence: The Assassination of Annie Mae” (“Wounded Knee 1973”), Yvonne Russo, Mark Becker, Amy Kaufman, and Caroline Waterlow
Short Film: “The Cockroach,” Mary Pat Bentel
Also at the event, writer/producer/actor Lena Waithe was presented Humanitas‘ “Voice for Change Award.” (Above, photo by Suji Lee.) The award “honors those who have created or championed visionary and courageous storytelling.” Waithe was presented the award by TV producer and writer Mara Brock Akil (“Forever,” “The Game”).
Additionally, awards were announced for the 2025 New Voices Fellowship, The David and Lynn Angell College Comedy Award, and The Carol Mendelsohn College Drama Award.
And Starz original programming president Kathryn Busby presented the Starz #TakeTheLead Award to Taylor Martin (“The Blacklist”).
New Voices Fellowship Program Advisor Emmylou Diaz (“Station 19,” “The Watchful Eye”) and Erika Kennair (Humanitas Board of Directors, head of scripted for the US division of The Mediapro Studio), presented the awards to the recipients of the New Voices Fellowship: Nicole Lynn Cohen, Meg Dudley, V Marks, Drew McInturff and Ariana Newhouse.
In addition were this year’s College Screenwriting Awards Winners: Mohannad Salman (David and Lynn Angell College Comedy Award winner) and Yeajoon Cho (Carol Mendelsohn College Drama Award winner).
