Dougray Scott to Play Hans Christian Andersen in ‘Fairytale Detective’
Dougray Scott (“Mission: Impossible 2,” “Desperate Housewives”) will embody iconic Danish author Hans Christian Andersen in “Fairytale Detective,” a new crime drama series from writer Brendan Foley and Omega Global Media.
Each one-hour episode of “Fairytale Detective” follows Andersen as he solves crimes in 1850s Copenhagen aided by a coterie of characters from his stories, who come to life to help him find justice. While embarking on his unusual hobby, he hopes to convince Jenny Lind, the love of his life, to marry him.
Scott and Foley recently collaborated on the breakout CW series “Sherlock and Daughter,” which was created by Foley and stars Scott as the villain Professor Moriarty. Foley also penned Season 2 of of Elisa Viihde’s Nordic series “The Man Who Died” and is currently developing a raft of international co-pro products. Scott’s upcoming projects also include ITVX’s “The Hack,” the Channel 4 drama series “Summerwater” and the BBC’s “Crookhaven.” They both will executive produce “Fairytale Detective.”
Omega Global Media managing director Danny Goldman will be at Mipcom in October to share the latest creative materials for “Fairytale Detective” with potential buyers.
“I’m very much looking forward to collaborating with Brendan Foley on ‘Fairytale Detective,’” Scott said in a statement. “He has given us a unique and exciting insight into the world of Hans Christian Andersen which is funny, surprising and incredibly moving. Hans Christian Anderson is a tragic/comic figure, possibly on the autism spectrum, whose only emotional outlet is through his fictional characters — he is his characters. Solving crimes gives him the same validation as his storytelling and a chance to understand and connect with the world around him. To explore those aspects of his life and character throughout the course of a series is incredibly exciting to me and we hope will be revelatory to an audience.”
“Fairytale Detective” joins Omega Global Media’s upcoming Mipcom slate, which also includes Canadian drama “Something Undone,” South African thriller “The History of Blood,” FBI-focused series “Bombay Noir” and the New Zealand-set dark comedy “Our Father.”
