Indie Eye Productions, the Emmy-winning outfit led by Sergio Guerrero Garzafox, has joined forces with Spain’s EFD Studios and Mexico’s AG Media to co-produce four-part docudrama  “Colón: mitos y orígenes” (“Columbus: Myths and Origins”).

The project aims to reopen one of history ‘s most persistent enigmas: the true identity of Christopher Columbus.

Combining investigative journalism, DNA analysis and cinematic dramatization, the docuseries examines four competing theories about Columbus’ origins and the mystery around the titles bestowed on him by the Catholic Monarchs.

In development, the series is scheduled to shoot in 2026 across Spain, Mexico and Portugal, and counts with 55% of financing already secured.

The series is produced by Guerrero Garzafox and Joan Carles Martorell at Indie Eye and EFD Studios’ Georgina Terán and Deme Naranjo, with Ricardo Lamas attached as writer.

Guerrero Garzafox, who won a Los Angeles Area Emmy for “Gracias Maestros,” will direct and serve as showrunner.

“This project dares to revisit a universal figure with the tools of modern investigation and the power of cinematic storytelling,” he told Variety. “By merging rigorous research with emotional docudrama, we offer audiences a thrilling way to rediscover history.”

U.S. and Mexico-based Indie Eye, in Guerrero Garzafox words, “focuses on bold, internationally relevant stories that mix entertainment with cultural and historical depth series and films that challenge accepted narratives and spark global conversations.”

Garzafox has been co-writer of immigration satire feature “A Day Without a Mexican,” and, as a showrunner, worked on series such as Fox’s “Dos lunas” and NBC’s “El Vato.”

The co-production partnership underscores the project’s international scope. EFD Studios, a leading production services company with operations across Spain, Mexico, Colombia and the U.S., is currently building what it describes as Europe’s largest LED volume stage in Madrid’s Boadilla del Monte.

AG Media, meanwhile, brings its expertise in digital content and 3D animation, providing local production support in Mexico.

The producers are applying for Spanish and Mexican audiovisual incentives, alongside a submission to Creative Europe MEDIA, aiming to round out the financing.

“Columbus: Myths and Origins” will be pitched Oct. 1 at the Co-Production and Financing Forum, part of Iberseries & Platino Industria 2025.
