Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Nishaanchi’ Unveils Trailer
Amazon MGM Studios India has unveiled the trailer for “Nishaanchi,” an action-packed entertainer from acclaimed director Anurag Kashyap that promises to deliver a full-throttle theatrical experience when it hits cinemas.
Starring newcomer Aaishvary Thackeray in a twin role, the film centers on brothers Babloo and Dabloo (Thackeray) whose opposing worldviews drive the narrative set in early 2000s Uttar Pradesh, northern India. Vedika Pinto co-stars as Rangeeli Rinku, with Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Monika Panwar and Kumud Mishra rounding out the cast.
“Aaishvary, Vedika, Monika, Zeeshan, Kumud and every single actor in the film — they didn’t just act, they lived and breathed these characters,” the director said. “Their commitment to the story and the authenticity of their performances shines in the film.”
Jar Pictures’ Ajay Rai and Ranjan Singh produce alongside Flip Films, with Kashyap co-writing the screenplay with Prasoon Mishra and Ranjan Chandel. The project marks a collaboration between the “Gangs of Wasseypur” helmer and Amazon’s India production arm.
“‘Nishaanchi’ is a story I’ve carried with me for years. It’s my most cinematic film with a classic story at its center involving emotion, betrayal, action — everything I grew up loving in Hindi films,” Kashyap said. “Working with Amazon MGM Studios India was extremely fruitful as they trusted me completely.”
The two-minute trailer showcases action sequences, romance and family dynamics across multiple storylines.
“We are delighted to finally unveil the trailer of ‘Nishaanchi’ to audiences,” said Madhok, director and head of India originals at Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video. “We at Amazon MGM Studios India are thrilled to collaborate with Anurag Kashyap for this film — a filmmaker whose bold and emotionally charged storytelling has left an indelible mark on Indian cinema.”
For lead actor Thackeray, the dual role presented both performance and musical opportunities, as he also contributed to the film’s soundtrack.
“Playing twins who are complete opposites challenged me in every way — emotionally, physically, and as an actor,” he said. “At the same time, contributing to the music of the film was just as special. For me, acting and music are like Babloo and Dabloo — two distinct parts of my personality that balance and complete each other.”
Zee Music Co backs the soundtrack, which features composers including Anurag Saikia, Manan Bhardwaj and Dhruv Ghanekar. Arijit Singh and Madhubanti Bagchi provide vocals alongside Thackeray for tracks including “Filam Dekho,” “Dear Country” and “Birwa.”
Co-star Pinto highlighted working with the acclaimed filmmaker as a career milestone.
“AK sir has always been on my wish list, someone I’ve admired for years, so getting the opportunity to be directed by him has truly been a dream come true,” Pinto said. “Playing Rangeeli Rinku has been a beautiful challenge. At first glance, she looks like this sweet, innocent girl and my look in the film reflects that but deep down, she’s fierce, bold, and full of spirit.”
The release represents Amazon MGM Studios India’s continued theatrical strategy following other local productions.
“We believe strongly in the power of the theatrical experience and are committed to bring a slate of distinctive films to cinemas in the coming years,” Madhok noted. “‘Nishaanchi’ is a very special part of this journey — a gripping entertainer that blends love, conflict, drama, and music in a way only Anurag can.”
“Nishaanchi” opens in Indian theaters Sept. 19.
