Daisy Ridley Thriller We Bury the Dead Bought by Signature for UK
“We Bury the Dead,” the upcoming post-apocalyptic zombie thriller starring Daisy Ridley, has found a home in the U.K. and Ireland.
The film — written and directed by Zak Hilditch (“1922”) — has been acquired by Signature Entertainment from Neon International. Earlier this year, Vertigo bought North American rights.
The survival thriller follows Ava, a desperate woman whose husband is missing in the aftermath of a catastrophic military experiment. Hoping to find him alive, Ava joins a “body retrieval unit,” but her search takes a chilling turn when the corpses she’s burying start showing signs of life. Alongside Ridley, the film star Brenton Thwaites (“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales”), Mark Coles Smith (“Last Cab to Darwin”) and Matt Whelan (“Narcos”).
The feature is produced by Anna-Nora Bernstein (“Our Hero,” “Balthazar”), Ross M. Dinerstein (“Jiro Dreams of Sushi”), Mark Fasano (“Land of Bad”), Joshua Harris (“Mary”), Kelvin Munro (“I Am Mother”) and Grant Sputore (“Legacy”). The deal was negotiated between Signature’s chief commercial officer Elizabeth Williams and Neono International’s president of international sales and distribution Kristen Figeroid.
“’We Bury the Dead’ was immediately appealing thanks to its commercial genre, excellent performances and quality production values,” said Williams. “We are thrilled to be both working with Neon to bring it to U.K. and Irish audiences and with Daisy Ridley once again after our success with ‘Magpie’ last year.”
Added Figeroid: “Signature continues to be a trusted partner for us in the UK, and we are excited to see how their team brings this film to U.K. audiences.”
