Oasis’ Noel Gallagher ‘Blown Away’ by Reunion Tour, ‘Proud’ of Liam
Oasis‘ Noel Gallagher has spoken for the first time about the Britpop band’s massive tour and reuniting with his brother Liam Gallagher, saying he’s “proud of him.”
The songwriter and guitarist called into TalkSport on Tuesday to chat football, but of course also ended up answering some questions about taking the stage with Oasis after 16 years. Asked his reaction to the tour so far, Gallagher said he’s “completely blown away — everyone is.”
“It’s difficult to put it into words, actually,” he said. “Every night is the crowd’s first night, you know what I mean? So every night’s got that kind of same energy to it. But it’s been truly amazing. I’m not usually short for words but I can’t really articulate at the minute, to be honest.”
At the band’s debut show in Cardiff, brothers Noel and Liam — who have a long history of feuding — emerged hand in hand. Noel told TalkSport “we’re not those kind of guys” when asked if it was an emotional moment, but added: “I guess when it’s all said and done we’ll sit and reflect on it, but it’s great being back in a band with Liam. I forgot how fun he was.”
Speaking about the energy of the crowd and sheer size of the stadiums Oasis is playing, Gallagher said he “grossly underestimated what I was getting into.”
“I’ve done stadiums before and all that but, I don’t mind telling you my legs had turned to jelly after about halfway through the second song,” Gallagher admitted. “But it’s been an amazing thing.”
Though Gallagher avoided heaping too much praise on his brother, he said: “Liam’s smashing it and I’m proud of him.”
“I know how difficult that is,” he said. “I couldn’t do the stadium thing like he does it, it’s not in my nature. But I gotta say man, I look around and think, ‘Good for you, mate.’ He’s been amazing.”
Oasis just finished its U.K. and Ireland run, with North America up next. After playing two more dates in London in September, the band will head to Asia, Australia and South America with the tour slated to finish in November. However, rumors have already been swirling about an extension. Gallagher played it coy when asked about the possibility, saying: “Right, let’s talk about football.”
